Do It Yourself

Come to the window covering experts for your DIY project

Why go to a big box store and wait 20 minutes for someone to show up, only to find out his expertise is in plumbing?

DIY doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice quality.  Did you know that Hunter Douglas pulled most of their products out of the big box stores over a year ago because the store staff didn’t know how to sell them?  Hunter Douglas is the leader in window fashions and the industry leader in innovation.  If you only shop at a big box store, you are only seeing the bottom of the quality scale.  Why limit yourself?

Hunter Douglas is the only manufacturer that has a window covering that qualifies for the Federal Energy Tax Credit (Duette Architella Shades).  If you only shop at the big box stores, you may pass up an opportunity to save 1/3 of your shade cost up to $1,500 as well as reduce your energy consumption (Federal Tax Credit expires 12/31/10).

Did you know that the way you measure a window for window coverings depends on what type of blind or shade you are installing?  There is nothing worse than spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars on window coverings only to find out you miss-measured the opening and they don’t fit.  In general, if you are measuring for an inside mount, you would take multiple width and height measurements and use the smallest width but the tallest height.  If you are measuring for a honeycomb shade, we normally add ¼” to the tallest width so the bottom rail sits on the sill.  We don’t do this for a blind because we don’t want excess cord and ladder on the sill.  If we are measuring for a Silhouette or a Nantucket, we use the shortest height measurement so the shade will tilt properly.  The rules change drastically for outside mounts.  You also need to make sure you have the proper surface to mount on which varies greatly by type of blind or shade you are mounting.

Our owner is a Hunter Douglas Certified Master Installer and is happy to share his vast experience with you on your specific DIY project.

Call us today and we will make sure your DIY project is done right.
